Snapping Beans with Grandma

Summer GrottkeBlog, Ladies, Men

I recently read a quote that went something along the lines of “Part of the problem with the world today is that no one snaps green beans with Grandma anymore.” I must admit that this caused me to pause and remember my own Grandmother. I remember snapping green beans with my own little bowl and the tenderness of her instructions and the guidance that she gave along the way.

The world that we live in today is fast paced; it is also full of “as seen on TV”, “3 monthly installments of $19.95”, and promises of the latest gadgets that can save you time and money. We have somehow lost sight of how lifechanging snapping green beans with Grandma can be. We’ve stepped away from meaningful and insightful conversations that can help equip us with the life skills that only a seasoned soul can provide.

My challenge for you today is to put away your gadgets, turn off your cellphones, realize that Facebook and Instagram can wait to hear about your day. If you have a Grandmother that is living; give her a tender hug because there will come a day that you will wish you could turn back the clock and go back to snapping green beans until your fingers hurt.
